Library Services for the Dead and Hard of Hearing

Information about the Library Services for the Dead and Hard of Hearing.  Please help out if you can.  Many of our interpreters use the this particular library for professional development.  If you are deaf, I hope you also take advantage of the material they have.

"Hello everyone!!  The Library Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing needs our help. They are once again facing budget cuts that could affect us all. Last year they took a huge cut causing them to get lose an employee and cut their hours. They are now only open from 9:00 AM until 2:30 PM…not real convenient for working people or those in school. However, if they get hit again that would mean another individual will lose their job leaving only one employee in the Deaf library and all events will be cancelled. This is huge! So we need you all to write a letter to the secretary of state requesting that they restore FULL funding to the Library Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.  Here are a few reasons you may want to include but by no means have to:

·   It is the 3rd largest Deaf Library in the nation
·   It attracts individuals from across the nation because of its extensive resources and renown
·   It provides avenues for Interpreting students and Sign students to interact with the Deaf community
·   Unique Deaf events are hosted by the Library
·   Houses some of the best resources for the Deaf, Interp reters, and students
·   Allows students access to materials that they otherwise couldn’t afford to purchase
·   Provides accessibility training and products to the Deaf and Deaf-Blind
Letters can be sent to: Secretary of State State Capitol, Nashville, TN 37243-1102. Call: 615-741-2819 or email to:
Tre.hargett@state.tn.us  Thanks for your help."
