WE ARE SERIOUS NEED A KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR TO MCCSDHH - Mid-south Community Center Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: This is very IMPORTANT and we needs YOUR help!  Mid-South Community Center Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a new non-profit deaf service organization.  Once we raise enough funds to pay all of the fees we need to finish for business set-up, our first job will be to help the VR office with placing the deaf and hard of hearing in work.  We need to raise funds to get the business started.  If you have experience with fundraising or if you want to donate money, please CLICK HERE to email Wally and Connie.  We need to raise $5000 quick so we can help the VR office to find work for the deaf and hard of hearing.  The $5000 pays for business insurance, IRS fees, business license fees, and other legal fees.  If you have fundraising skills or if you can donate money, please CLICK HERE to email Wally and Connie. Join us while we eat lunch and, if you wish, bring some lunch with you and eat with us.  We can talk about anything we have time to discuss.  We want talk 5 minutes about advocating for rights.  The rest of time is ours.

TAD BOARD MEETING - August 7th Saturday at 9am to ? - All 6 Chapters will come to Memphis for the TAD Board meeting at Community Life Center, 1106 Colonial Rd., Memphis, TN 38117. Everyone please come and listen to speakers. I will speaker about Deaf Tennessean Expo.

MCTAD (Memphis Chapter Tennessee Association of the Deaf) - All MCTAD members and non-members going out to eat at Perkins on Park Ave (White Station Rd.) to chat and fun!!  August 14th at 5pm.

SILENT DINNER - McAlister on Goodman Rd same place as usually. August 13, Friday at 6pm.

DEAF CONNECT MEETING - DeafConnect Board meeting as always on Thursday at 6:00 pm on the 2nd week of the month on August 12. Everyone welcome and listen to them what's going happens.

NEW INTERPRETER IN THE MID-SOUTH! - New an Interpreter business named: Stoddard Consulting Interpreter Service. Nena work an Interpreter over 20 yrs experience. Anyone who needed an Interpreter for Dr, College, office, etc. Only in the Mid-South of Memphis (Northern Mississippi and Eastern Arkansas of the areas). MALCO THEATRE WITH CC - If D/HH not go to movies, then Malco will take away caption machine.  So we need advertise that Malco-Forest Hill theater have captions. I am taking the time to respond to your email because in the past I have dealt with these matters. I am happy to hear from you as the business of 1500 more people is exciting. We are, at Forest Hill, the only theater to offer the "REAR WINDOW" closed captioning system. It has proven very successful and the hearing impaired patrons that have used it have expressed great ease in doing so. This week the romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter will be showing in Theater 8 (the only theater currently with the system). The movie that shows in Theater 8 changes on a week by week basis, so if you shoot an email every Wednesday addressed to me I will be happy to tell you what movie is playing in Theater 8 that coming Friday. Thanks and we hope to see you soon."

SIGN ART MINISTRY - An exciting event is coming to Knoxville on Friday night, June 25, and I'd like to invite you to be a part of it. I've established an organization called Sign Art Ministry which has been a long time dream of mine. Everything you need to know about the ministry, the event, and how you can become involved is explained in the website. Announcements from Midsouth Community Center Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: 
Get a College Certificate!:  Do you have a college-age D/HH family member who was born with an intellectual disability like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome, Fetal Rubella, or PKU?  Would this person like to attend Vanderbilt University starting this fall?  If so, email connie@mccsdhh.org to find out more about Vanderbilt’s Next Step program for those with intellectual disabilities.  The deadline for inquiries is February 10, 2010.   Caption Movies in Mid-south!:  Forest Hill Cinema has caption movies!    This is ONLY caption movie theater between Little Rock and Nashville.  They know how to speak with relay operators so call at (901) 756-8299 to learn which movie has captions.  Or you can email at: cinema.forestHill@malco.com  Movies change every other Thursday.  Forest Hill Movie theater address:  3180 Village Shops Drive, Germantown, TN 38138  (near Poplar and Johnson Road – 3 miles from Collierville).  So far, Forest Hill Cinema been very friendly and try very hard to make sure caption equipment works, employees communicate with D/HH, and D/HH have access to same movie information as hearing.  But if you have any problems going to movies at Forest Hill Cinema, please report problems to connie@mccsdhh.org.

DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP - Here is a college scholarship for the deaf and hard of hearing from the Optimist Club for up to $2500. Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Topic: "Cyber Communication: Progress or Problem?" -- The Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is for young people up to and including grade 12 in the United States and Canada, to CEGEP in Quebec and grade 13 in the Caribbean, who are identified by a qualified audiologist as deaf or hard of hearing. Students interested in participating in the contest must submit an audiogram completed within 24 months of the date of the contest by a qualified audiologist. Students must have a hearing loss of 40 decibels or more to be eligible to compete. Students may use sign language, oral presentation or a combination of both. Contests run at various times in each state/province but conclude by late May. Club prize: Medallion - District prize: Plaque and $2,500 college scholarship for first-place winner. -- For an application and complete contest rules, please click here or http://www.optimist.org:80/e/visitor/scholarships.cfm  -- If you meet the criteria listed above for the 2009-2010 school year, locate the area in which you live on the District map or http://www.optimist.org/Documents/District_Map.pdf . The District Chair will put you in touch with a Club in your area that is sponsoring the contest and answer questions such as proper format and deadlines.
