Hello D/HH Mentors,
We are having another mentor presentation for you this
Saturday July, 26 2008 at 12:00 at Deaf Connect. This
presentation is from Big Brothers, Big Sisters (BBBS) and they
informed me that they had a deaf male student, but the student did
not have a Deaf Big Brother. Well, lets get involved now to change
that.
We had a meeting on June 26 last month and the presentation was done
by MCS (Memphis City Schools) and the Connect Mentor Program.
Applications were given out to the mentors that attended.
However, in August and September, we will have a big group of D/HH
mentors going though orientation for both the Connect Mentor program
and for BBBS.
Keep in mind that Connect Mentor is for in school mentoring only. We
definitely need mentors for this program. BBBS is for community
mentoring, outside of school hours. You can do both!!! That' s why
BBBS is presenting this Saturday. I had an opportunity to be a Big
Sister to a teenager in middle school in Arkansas and it was a great
opportunity.
Both mentor programs need your
HELP!!! It is fun, rewarding and you can help young students to
have a better view of themselves and about life.
Mentors, lets get involved and participate. Lets make
this 2008-2009 school year a mission for us to get involved and
change lives. We want to set examples for the future
generation of D/HH youth and this is the TIME. No more waiting,
procrastinating, or not making time for them. OUR TIME IS
NOW!!!! OUR D/HH YOUTH NEEDS YOUR TIME. Let's get into
the action. Come to the meetings, complete your applications and go
through orientations and get ready for your little brother, little
sister, or your little mentee.
You will feel so blessed for the actions that you contribute to the
young society.
Thanks,
Leora-DHH Mentor Coordinator, Deaf Advocate, Future Mentor, Future
Big Sister
